Volcanic Eruption in Iceland
At this time we here in Iceland have an active volcanic eruption that started on the 18th of December on the Reykjanes Peninsula close to Blue Lagoon, Grindavik town and Geothermal Svartsengi. The fissure was almost 4 kilometers long at beginning but is getting shorter. This is the fourth eruption in the area since 2021 and the largest so far. The eruption does not pose a threat to life and the eruption is not expected to impact populated areas or critical infrastructure in the coming days, and is not expected to reach Grindavík town so far.
